Prime Minister Imran Khan said on Thursday that the government has given a new roadmap to protect the future generations from global warming, encourage wealth creation and enhance tax collection.
The premier said this while addressing a ceremony in Islamabad for the launch of Pakistan‘s first environment friendly electric bike.
“Our electric vehicle policy is part of government’s Clean and Green Initiative,” he said during his address.
Terming the manufacturing of electric bikes a futuristic and positive step, the prime minister said, “We have to manufacture electric buses and cars in order to address the issue of pollution in big cities where the pollution level has reached dangerous levels.”
He added that his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) led government is also executing the 10 billion tree tsunami project, and preparing masterplans for cities to deal with the issue.
Regarding wealth creation, PM Imran said it will be ensured that auto parts, including that of motorcycles and other raw materials, are locally manufactured.
He said the local production of products will be ensured in order to bolster the country’s exports to address the issue of balance of payment on a permanent basis. He further assured extending all possible assistance to strengthen the auto industry.
Moreover, the prime minister maintained that a mineral map is being prepared which will show how rich the country is in natural resources.
“Economy is on the upward trajectory and steps are being taken to ensure sustainable growth,” he observed.
Alluding to the government’s austerity drive, the premier said, “We have significantly reduced the expenditures of the Prime Minister House and PM Secretariat over the last three years.
He said the government’s aim is to imbibe confidence in taxpayers about their money being spent on their welfare.
In his remarks on the occasion, Federal Minister for Industries & Production Khusro Bakhtiar said that a new auto policy will be presented before the cabinet next month for approval. He added that the policy will focus on local production of vehicles and make the auto industry export oriented.
“Under the electric vehicle policy, three licenses have already been given whilst licenses for 17 more manufacturers are in line,” Bakhtiar stated, adding that, “The development of charging infrastructure will also be encouraged that will provide job opportunities to the youth.”
The federal minister said that Pakistan has a good motorcycle manufacturing industry and it is eyeing their exports to Afghanistan, Central Asian States and Africa.
