Nick Grimshaw has spoken about the possibility of appearing on this year’s I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here.
The former BBC Radio 1 presenter took to the airwaves to reveal his decision when he spoke to FUBAR Radio.
Chatting to hosts Bobby Norris and Stephen Leng on Access All Areas, Grimshaw explained the unlikeness of him joining ITV’s hit reality show, which is set to return for a second year in Wales later this year.
The presenter, who left Radio 1 last month after 14 years on the station, was quick to quell the prospects as he told the hosts: “I don’t think I would. I honestly can’t with any creature. I don’t know how people do it. Like honestly, I just could not.
“I can’t even touch a cat. I couldn’t touch a snake. I couldn’t. Dogs I’m fine with but even my sister’s cats, I’m like: ‘Aahh!’. So there’s not a chance,” he added.
Despite the reassurance that many TV and radio presenters have tested their fate on the show, including Roman Kemp and Tony Blackburn, Grimshaw stood firm in his decision to decline the opportunity.
The only way Grimshaw would ever fathom the thought is if the producers met his very personalised criteria: “I’d like to do it if it wasn’t on the telly and I could try it for an hour and then be like ‘I don’t like it.’ Just like a sped-up version. An hour long.”
On a similar note, when asked if he would appear on Strictly Come Dancing, which saw his former colleagues Scott Mills and Clara Amfo participate, he rejected that too.
“My boyfriend’s a dancer and he would just not let me do it because he’s like a perfectionist and that’s his trade.”
You gotta wonder whether the only reason he agreed to do Celebrity Gogglebox is that he can do that from the comfort of his sofa.
I’m a Celebrity airs on ITV.
